Description:

Only an estimated 7,000 Colt First Model Dragoon revolvers were manufactured in 1848 to 1850. They are important to collectors of antique American revolvers in general and Colts in particular as one of Samuel Colt's large "holster pistols" descended from the famous Colt Walker. This revolver was manufactured in 1849 for the commercial market and has a German silver blade front sight, "{ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY}" reading from the breech towards the muzzle on the top of the barrel, oval cylinder stops, "COLTS/PATENT/U.S." on the left side of the frame, the square-back trigger guard, all matching serial numbers (wedge and grip blank), "0" by the serial numbers on the barrel and frame, the "0" as well as "A" and "K" by the serial number on the trigger guard, "S" by the serial number on the cylinder, "2" and a starburst marking by the serial number on the butt, "S1" on the left trigger guard shoulder, "H" on the opposite side, and "I" or "1" on the upper right shoulder of the back strap.

Rating Definition:

Good with mostly mottled dark gray and artificial brown patina, mild pitting, traces of original silver plating remaining in the protected areas, aged patina on the exposed brass, faded cylinder scene on the lightly pitted, refinished cylinder, mostly crisp other markings, and scattered marks and scratches. The grip is very good and has moderate handling wear, some light scratches and dings, and mild edge wear. The timing is a little off; otherwise, it's mechanically fine.
