Description:

10,500 of these "side lever" Hall carbines were manufactured by Simeon North in 1844-1853. The 1st and 2nd U.S. Dragoons were among the units issued these carbines during the Mexican-American War and more than half are believed to have been rifled for use in the Civil War, making original smoothbore examples like this fairly scarce. This 1847 example somehow escaped hard service in either of the wars and has the standard markings and features. A removable collection marking is on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 85% of an attractive smooth brown in place of the original brown lacquer, strong niter blue on the breech lever, strong dark case colors on the breech, some splashed of lacquer/dried oil, smooth oiled finish on the very fine stock, minimal overall wear, some mild surface oxidation on the buttplate, distinct markings, and general minor marks and scratches.
