Description:

Originally manufactured in 1863 and then 1 of only 1,000 converted for the U.S. Cavalry in 1871, thereafter altered during period of usage by shortening the barrel and shortening the U.S. holster. Matching serial numbers are on the frame and grip straps, and "191" conversion number is also marked on the barrel, frame, grip straps, breech plate, and cylinder. The frame has the "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the left, and "44 CAL" is below on the left side of the trigger guard. Includes an Allen Mfg. Co. reproduction 1860 Army barrel and period cavalry style open toe leather flap holster with name scratched into the flap.

Rating Definition:

Fair overall as period modified with 85% plus of the silver plating remaining on the front strap, mostly dark brown patina on the balance, some mild oxidation and pitting, faint barrel markings, mostly legible other markings, hammering marks on the butt, scratches and moderate handling wear on the grip, a few small chips, and general moderate to heavy wear. Mechanically fine. The extra barrel has been partially modified for use with a conversion revolver and retains 30% of the blue and has mild scrapes and dings, some minor oxidation, and a jammed filler piece in the rammer slot. The holster is good and has heavy crackling concentrated on the body, rub wear, and general moderate wear. A pleasing U.S. Cavalry Indian Wars and old Western rig.
