Description:

This revolver was converted by cutting off the back of the cylinder, installing a recoil shield plate with a integral notch rear sight, milling in a loading slot (no loading gate), and modifying the hammer to strike a centerfire cartridge. It does not appear to be factory work. The barrel has a brass cone front sight and "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" on top. The frame has the "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the left, and the trigger guard has "S" and "36 CAL" on the left. The visible serial numbers match (larger font on the components other than the cylinder) and date the revolver to 1864.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period converted to cartridge with 25% blue remaining, traces of original case colors and silver plating, aged patina on the brass, dark brown patina on the balance, some mild oxidation and pitting, and moderate overall wear. The wedge screw is a replacement, and the spring from the wedge has been placed in the slot next to the wedge. The grip is very fine and has minor edge wear and some light scuffs and dings. Mechanically fine.
