Description:

The barrel has a post front sight and is stamped "COLT/PATENT" at the breech followed by "Devisme arqer Bte a Paris" in Gothic script. A "crown/V" stamp is on the left above the wedge screw and on the rear of the cylinder. The cylinder also has a Liege oval proof, a script "L" over "N./GILON" on the face, and the cylinder scene associated with the Belgian Colts by Ghaye and Gilon. It is not clear if Gilon was making these revolvers under an agreement with Colt or making counterfeits, but they were definitely making quality products; clearly this one was good enough to be sold through the shop of well-known Parisian gunmaker Louis-Francois Devisme. Matching serial numbers are on the barrel, frame, and grip straps. The right side of the grip is marked "6270."

Rating Definition:

Very good with patches of original blue finish in the protected areas of the barrel, mostly mottled gray and brown patina on the balance of the steel along with minor pitting, strong original silver plating in the protected areas of the grip straps, attractive aged patina on the exposed brass, distinct markings, and general marks and scratches. The slightly undersized refinished grip is very good with minor edge wear, and light scrapes and dings. Mechanically fine.
