Description:

An estimated 6,063 of these revolvers were manufactured around 1864-1866 by the Metropolitan Arms Co. of New York City. Samuel and William Syms (of the well-known firm Blunt & Syms of New York) are reported to have been officers of the business. These revolvers are clearly copies of Colt's famous Model 1851 Navy revolver and were turned out after Colt's disastrous factory fire. It has a small brass blade front sight, "<METROPOLITAN ARMS Co. NEW-YORK>" on top of the barrel, New Orleans naval battle scene on the cylinder, and matching partial or full serial numbers on the loading lever, barrel, wedge, cylinder frame, grip straps, and back strap mortise of the grip (hand-written in pencil).

Rating Definition:

Very good with mottled gray and brown patina, mild pitting, strong original silver plating under the grip, aged patina on the exposed portion of the grip straps, distinct markings, and moderate overall wear associated with age and storage. The grip is very fine and has only minimal handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent.
