Description:

The Model 1816 musket was the most widely produced of any U.S. musket with nearly 700,000 being produced, a large number of which would later be converted to percussion prior to the Civil War. This example shows no signs of being converted, likely due to most muskets made prior to 1821 being considered too outdated to be serviceable. It shows standard markings and features of the Type I variation with "1816" dated barrel tang, lock plate, and buttplate, and a removable collection mark on the trigger guard. Includes a socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Good, showing a mix of bright and grey patina with some evidence of light cleaning and mild pitting near the breech, pan, and lock. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is very good with some minor chipping, minor handling marks throughout, a hairline crack, and a faint cartouche. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is fine showing a mix of bright and grey patina.
