Description:

Approximately 30,000 Model 1812 muskets were manufactured in 1814-1816. This the Type II variation with band spring studs rather than the narrower and longer springs of the Type I and IIIs. It has a bayonet stud on top near the muzzle marked "D," a brass blade front sight on the rear of the upper barrel band, "P/eagle head/V" and "US" markings at the breech, "US/eagle motif/SPRINGFIELD" at the center of the lock, "1815" at the tail of the lock, "1816" on the buttplate tang, "ZA" inside the lock, "o" markings on several of the lock components, "X" marked lock screws, "CB" on the trigger plate, a collection marking on the outside of the bow, "US" on the left stock flat, cheek rest cut-out, and faint markings on the stock. The socket bayonet has no visible markings.

Rating Definition:

Good with mostly gray patina and mild pitting, generally distinct markings, refinished stock with some hairline cracks and minor chips, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine.
