Description:

Springfield Armory produced approximately 80,000-85,000 of these muskets from 1795 to 1814. With this example being dated "1807" on the lock and buttplate it is almost certain it saw action in the War of 1812, as muskets were being issued as quickly as they could be produced. It shows standard markings and features as well as a "SNY" New York marking at the breech and a removable collection mark on the trigger guard. There are two faint "US" cartouches on the buttstock and a hand carved "X". Includes an "8/LI" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Good, showing very scattered grey patina and evidence of cleaning and some mild pitting. The wood is very good with minor dings and scratches scattered throughout, some chipping, a few cracks (some repaired), and faint cartouches. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is fair showing mostly a grey patina mild pitting and a damaged section of the edge.
