Manufactured from 1817 to 1820 with a total production of about 19,374. The lock plate is marked with the later type marking: "S. NORTH (in a downward arch)/U eagle shield motif S/MIDLTN CONN. (in an upward arch)". The barrel has "RJ" and a condemnation mark above the vent (assures original flintlock!) and "P/US" on the left at the breech. Brass blade front sight on the barrel band, brass flash pan without a fence and the remaining mountings are iron. The stock extends about 1/2" ahead of the barrel band and the iron back strap extends from the barrel to the buttcap. The stock has "JC" and "V" stamps and an "LS" cartouche on the left flat and a "3" on the right side of the pommel. Complete with an original hickory ramrod with a swelled tip and threaded iron ferrule for cleaning and ball removal on the opposite end.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel, barrel band and trigger guard show 30% original untouched brown finish mixed with smooth mottled brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth dark patina. The stock is very fine with a barely noticeable hairline crack extending from the upper left side plate screw forward, a couple of minor chips in front of the lock and overall a few minor dings and dents. The cartouche and other inspectors markings are excellent. The action is excellent. If you are looking to own one U.S. Model 1816 North pistol, here it is!
