Description:

Only an estimated 3,359 of these artillery musketoons were manufactured from 1848-1859. They are similar to the Model 1847 Cavalry and Sappers musketoons but differ in their sights, bayonet lugs, front barrel bands, and ramrods. Total production of these musketoons only ever reached about 10,000 due to poor reception from the cavalry who found the weapons cumbersome and inaccurate. This example has standard markings including "1854" dated lock plate and barrel tang. Includes a socket bayonet. Removable collection mark in white under varnish on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing mostly bright finish speckled with some grey patina and some light flash pitting around the bolster/nipple. The wood is also fine has some scattered minor dings and scratches and a clear cartouche. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is also fine showing mostly bright with some light pitting and grey patina.
