Description:

Measuring 36 inches in overall length, with a 30 inch straight quillback blade, finished in niter blue on the lower half, with gold-trimmed borders and gold accented etching, featuring an array of arms, a ring of 13 stars, and an eagle perched on a globe on each side. The guard and pommel are finished in gold, with acorn designs worked into the counter-guard and a 5-pointed star in the center, a carved bone grip, and a "screaming eagle" style pommel. The sheath is also gold finished, with oak leaf motifs, a large 5-pointed star between the mid band and the tip, and a ring of 13 stars between the bands. The maker and user are unrecorded, though the general profile and oak leaf designs suggest a blade of German origin, while the eagle and 13 star motifs suggest American destination sometime after the Revolution.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The blade shows some light spotting and handling marks, with a slight bend to the left, some heavier spotting at the ricasso, and strong, fiery niter blue. Some play is detectable in the pommel, otherwise the hilt is good, with 60% of the gilt finish, a fine aged patina on the visible brass, and some light chips on the grip. The scabbard is very good, with traces of original gilt finish in the protected areas and some mild dents and scratches.
