Description:

The vast majority of the Model 1892 rifles were arsenal updated to the Model 1896 style. This rifle has the replacement Second Type Model 1892 (1500-24500) double banded upper band and a one-piece cleaning rod with smooth steel tip. The left side of the receiver has been marked: "U. S./1894. SPRINGFIEL D ARMORY. 18." A small hollowed out cavity (not the later standard type) is under the buttplate which does not have a door. The stock does not have a visible cartouche on the left side but does have traces of the circled script "P" by the trigger guard. It is fitted with a leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 40% plus blue on the barrel, refinished and remarked receiver with dark case colors and gray patina, mostly bright bolt, most of the arsenal refurbished blue finish remaining on the replaced side plate, brown patina mixed with oxidation and pitting on the buttplate, period repairs visible at the heel and toe, a few chips and flakes (most notably by the side plate), and general mild dents and scratches. Mechanically fine.
