Description:

One of approximately 5,804-6,703 manufactured by Springfield Armory from 1848-1859. This cavalry model shares many similarities with the sappers and artillery versions of the Model 1847 musketoons aside from the ramrod swivels, sling ring bar, and lack of bayonet lug. Only about 10,000 total were manufactured across the three variations, mainly due to the cavalry finding them cumbersome and inaccurate. This example shows standard markings and features including a faint cartouche on the left flat. Removable collection mark on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing mostly bright and antique patina on the brass with speckling of brown patina and some light flash pitting. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is very good with some scattered minor dings, some minor chipping along the ramrod channel, a few hairline cracks (most notable is protruding from the rear of the lock plate into the wrist), and a faint cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
