Description:

Manufactured from 1870 to 1871. This example shows the standard markings and features of the first 1,000 rifles manufactured which were not accepted by the U.S. Navy. These rifles were rejected due to the rear sight being too close to the receiver. It lacks the anchor and inspector markings on the barrel as is common of these rifles that were sold commercially after rejection. Complete with slotted cleaning rod and sword bayonet with eagle head handle marked with cross cannon/anchor and "I.A." on the toe, "USN/G.G.S./1870" at the base of the blade and leather sheath.

Rating Definition:

Fine as partially refinished, most of the lightly cleaned blue finish and 99% restored case colors with the balance thinning to a smooth grey patina. The wood has minor dings and scratches scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is fine showing a mixture of bright and grey patina with the brass showing an attractive antique patina. The sheath is fair with mild wear, cracking, and a split seam.
