Description:

Designed by Erskine S. Allin, master armorer at Springfield Armory, to correct multiple problems encountered with the Model 1865. About 25,000 rifled muskets were altered to .50-70 CF around 1866. This one has the standard markings and features and is dated "1865" on the lock and "1866" on the breech. Removable collection mark on the trigger guard. Includes a "33/US" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored, showing bright cleaned surfaces, and 98% finishes on the black breech block and vivid casehardened lock. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is fine with a few minor dings, a minor crack near the barrel tang, and faint cartouches. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is very good showing a mixture of bright and grey patina.
