Description:

Manufactured from 1876 to 1877, this is a rare civilian variation of the desirable Second Model Schofield. Estimates place the number of civilian guns made at approximately 650 (see Supica and Nahas' "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" for further information). As a commercial variation the revolver correctly lacks U.S. sub inspector marks and "US" marking as found on martial contracts. The ejector housing is marked with the two-line address/patent dates information on the left side and the Schofield patent line on the right side. The grips correctly lack the military cartouche. Matching serial numbers are found on the butt, right grip panel, and cylinder.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 80% plus original blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown. 90% original case colors remain on the hammer with 60% plus on the trigger guard. The grips are fine with a tiny chip near the bottom (left panel) and scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. One of the most rare examples of the Model 3 revolvers manufactured.
