The accompanying Colt Archive letter states this revolver was manufactured on December 23, 1940, in .357 Magnum caliber and shipped on December 26. The factory records contained no other information. Colt only manufactured 525 First Generation SAA in .357 Magnum. It has standard Colt markings, and matching serial numbers are found on the frame, both grip straps under the grip and both grip panels. The last two digits of serial number ("44") are stamped on the rear face of cylinder.

Fine, retaining 50% original blue finish and 40% original case colors with the balance a smooth gray patina. The grips are also fine with some minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically fine.
