Description:

North & Judd, though based on the East coast became a name synonymous with the American West. Based in Connecticut the company manufactured a multitude of different hardware much of which was needed by cowboys and people of the West, including bits, spurs, saddle hardware, and all manner of tack. The Anchor Brand with which many of their goods were marked was registered with the U.S. Patent Office in 1879. It is believed that the design of this bit was originally created expressly for Buffalo Bill, and there are examples of it that were cast with his signature. In 1917, after his death, his family sued North & Judd to have the signature removed. This bit was manufactured in the early 1900s and bears that famous Anchor Brand mark. It is fashioned out of a combination of Hercules bronze and steel in the shape of two Colt Single Action Army revolvers. Approximately 8" long and 6 1/4" wide.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall, showing mostly bright and age darkened bronze with some mild wear.
