The included factory letter confirms the serial number, model and grade, and the major features of this shotgun. The letter states that very few side lever Royals were produced and that such a feature was available on a strictly special order basis. The letter further states the gun as being rebarreled in the 1930s, likely by the maker, though due to patchy record keeping at the time this cannot be confirmed. Blue steel dovetail lump barrels with a single bead sight on a smooth concave rib marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON" with 2 3/4 inch chambers, automatic ejectors, Birmingham nitro proofs on the flats, and modified/full chokes. The action and locks are a bright coin finish with near full coverage best bouquet and scroll engraving, nitre blue pins and screws, and the under side marked "THE ROYAL/PATENT SAFETY/HAMMERLESS/EJECTOR". The top of the action is marked with a gold inlaid "2", indicating the gun as being part of a set (confirmed by the letter). With dual triggers, automatic sliding tang safety, and the mentioned side lever release. Checkered splinter forearm with engraved fittings, Anson push rod latch, and nicely figured straight grip stock with raised tear drop flats, blank initial oval, and leather wrapped recoil pad. Bore and stock measurements (R/L): chambers proved and measured at 2 3/4 inches; both bores from the breech proved at "12" and measured at .731/.732; chokes measured at .014/.034; drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 1/8 inches; length of pull 14 1/2 inches; weight 6 lbs. 12 oz.

Very fine as professionally restored. With 95% plus professionally refinished blue on the barrels, showing faint traces of pitting under the finish, strong markings, and mild handling marks. The receiver is bright with distinct engraving and markings, vibrant nitre blue screws, and some small dings. The wood is also very fine with crisp freshened checkering, small professional repairs to the forend edge, and a few small dings. Mechanically excellent.
