Description:

This is a very rare 1867 Navy contract Remington Rolling Block Cadet Rifle built for use by training cadets at the Naval Academy. It is estimated that only 498 were ever built and the survival rate is extremely low. They were manufactured by Springfield Armory using the Remington action. The top of the tang has the standard two-line Remington patent address. The left side of the receiver has the small naval acceptance proof of an anchor and the right has the U.S. inspector proof of "P/ F.C.W." The buttplate is marked "U.S." and "C/379". Includes a "US" marked socket bayonet. Removable collection mark on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall, showing mostly bright metal and 30% of the original case color with the balance a smooth grey patina. The wood has some minor chipping and handling marks scattered throughout and a repaired crack in the wrist. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is very good showing mostly bright finish with some scattered grey patina and light pitting.
