This is a late WWII standard K98 rifle that was equipped with the desirable long eye relief ZF-41 scope. These scopes were intended to be a shooter's aid for the infantry man who displayed superior marksmanship to help improve hit probability. These small scopes are 1.5X and, although small, they do help improve the above average shooter. The top of the receiver is marked: "eagle/135/byf/ 44", and the receiver sidewall is marked "Mod.98" in block letters. The right side of the receiver is stamped with a "eagle/135", and the left side of receiver and barrel have the single larger German eagle firing proof. The side of the rear sight base has the integral dovetail base for the sniper scope, and the ZF-41 mount is unnumbered and correctly stamped with a small "duv" acceptance proof. It is fitted with a 1.5 power scope marked: "jve/Z.F.41", and the mount is a standard version, proofed "duv/eagle/214" on the rear leg. The modified barrel has been threaded and fitted with an eight slot American made flash hider. Laminated pistol grip stock with matching numbered barrel bands, "eagle/swastika/WaA135" Waffenamt on the right side, and smooth cupped steel buttplate. Includes bayonet with steel sheath and leather frog. The frog has been decorated with an alloy Luftwaffe eagle.

Very fine as modified (see above). 85% original blue finish remains on the barrel and receiver with distinct markings and proofs, some light edge wear, small surface scratches, and handling marks. The stock is fine with small dings and bruises throughout, strong acceptance mark, and gray patina on the buttplate. Stock is "duffle cut" beneath the mid band. Mechanically excellent.
