Description:

Introduced in 1891, this bolt action service rifle is chambered for the .303 black powder British cartridge. The rifle was designed to alleviate the problem of black powder fowling. Manufactured by the Birmingham Small Arms Co. with the "crown/VR" cipher above the maker's name and "1891" year of manufacture. The top of the breech end of the barrel is stamped with the "crown/GP" proof and "RR" stamp. With fixed blade front and flip up adjustable ladder rear sights, an 8 round box magazine with cut-off on the right side of the receiver, volley sights on the left side of the stock, bayonet lug, walnut semi-pistol grip stock with standard British markings on the right side, iron trapdoor buttplate, and British Pattern 1888 Mk. 1 bayonet with leather sheath.

Rating Definition:

Very good. 60% period, possibly arsenal refinished blue remains on the barrel with some traces of light pitting under the blue, some edge wear, surface scratches, and a mostly brown patina on the action cover. The wood is also fine with shallow finger grooves, dings and dents throughout, and visible markings. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is very good.
