This rifle likely originated in New England in the early 19th century. The barrel has traditional blade and notch sights and appears to be signed "S Marckley." The lock is marked "BRAZIER" at center. It has oval and tear drop lock screw plates. The patch box has a horse head finial with light floral engraving and pierced side plates. The German silver rear barrel key plates are German silver and have light wavy line engraving. The wrist has a silver thumb escutcheon. The cheek rest has a silver hunter star, an incised line on the edge, and a "Sourenic" marked plaque just below. The trigger guard has a collection marking.

Good as reconverted to flintlock configuration with dark brown patina on the barrel, artificial brown on the lock, aged patinas on the furniture, absent tail section of the half-cock safety, added accents, spliced forend from the entry pipe forward, splice above the lock, some chips and minor cracks, replaced toe plate and splice at the toe, attractive flame figure, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine.
