Description:

This is an excellent example of a First Issue DWM Model 1906 Navy Commercial Luger pistol rig that includes its original matching numbered Navy pattern board stock and Commercial Navy pattern leather holster. This superb Luger is complete with one original Navy commercial wood base magazine. These pre-WWI Navy issue commercial Lugers are extremely rare as almost all production was sold/issued to the Imperial German Navy at this time. Then after WWI, during the Weimar era, almost all of the Navy models were reworked or destroyed under the Treaty of Versailles. This example has the original first issue (unaltered) safety that is marked "GESICHERT" in the lower position. It has the standard 1906 features that include the wide grip safety, no chamber date, the 6 inch Navy pattern barrel, and the two position navy rear sight. The sight was graduated 100 and 200. The left side of the barrel extension has the double commercial "crown/U" proof marks, and the side of the breech block stamped with the commercial "crown/B" and "crown/U" proof marks. The under side of the barrel is stamped with the "crown/B", "G", and "U" proof marks, followed by a small commercial "crown/M" Navy proof. The frame and barrel are both correctly numbered with the full serial number (6469) along with the bore markings on the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number (69) are correctly stamped on all the various small parts. The single magazine that accompanies this pistol is also an original pre-war commercial version with the nickel plated body with the wooden base with the concentric circles on the ends. The base of the magazine is correctly stamped in script "Cal. 9 m/m". The Navy Luger is accompanied with its original matching numbered Navy pattern commercial walnut board stock. The attaching iron has its original rust blue finish and is correctly stamped "6964" on top of the iron in small numbers. It also comes with an early Navy pattern, 6 inch long, black leather holster. This early commercial leather holster is stamped with: " H.CLEEMEN/ELBERFELD" inside on the back side of the holster.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% of its original commercial blue finish with only minor high spot wear with blue loss on the stock lug, front edges of the frame rails and edges of the side plate hump. It retains 50% of its straw colors with slightly more in the protected areas of the trigger. The grips are in excellent condition with nice clear distinct checkering on both sides and only a couple of minor nicks on the right grip. The matching board stock is also in excellent condition with 95% of the original blue finish on the attaching iron, an original very nice medium brown color on the board stock, and only a couple heavier pressure dents on the left side where it came in contact with the holster. A truly exceptional DWM M1906 Commercial Navy rig.
