Description:

Produced circa 1901/1902, the Philippine (aka Alaskan) Model was ordered in response to combat experience in the Philippines where the then-standard .38 Colt revolvers were seen as insufficient to deal with the Moro Rebels. Using the 1878 Frontier as a baseline, the 1878/1902 lengthens the trigger for increased leverage on a reinforced mainspring. Fixed sights, with Carr's "R.A.C." inspection marks on the left side of the frame and trigger guard and the rear of the cylinder, "J.T.T.", "1902" and "U.S." on the right side, niter blue trigger and hammer, and checkered Rampant Colt grips with a lanyard swivel on the butt. Included with the lot is a period modified for large trigger guard leather "US" holster, with a faint Rock Island Arsenal mark and two closure holes on the flap.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 50% of the original blue finish, showing a mixed artificial brown patina visible on the barrel, areas of brown and gray overall, bright edge wear, and a number of light scratches and other handling marks. A few patches of pitting are present on and around the ejector housing. The grips are also fine, with a few dings and good detail in the decoration. The holster shows crackling and scuffing. Mechanically fine.
