Description:

This is an exceptionally rare example of a "first day" production serial number "1000014", WWII Winchester M1 Carbine. The early carbines of any producers are extremely rare, as most went out and saw signification service use, and were then rebuilt numerous times, with this example having been restored using all the very early configured parts. It has the rare early Type I receiver with the two small machining holes on the right side rail. The receiver also has the early square rear milled area with the single takedown notch and the narrow rear tang. The rear of the receiver is marked: "WINCHESTER/1000014" over the circled "WP" proof on the receiver. It is fitted with the equally rare Type I detachable operating rod tube with the small lug that fits into the underside receiver rail. The barrel is the first type with the integral one-piece gas cylinder the long full skirt. It is marked with the early slightly larger "W" over the Shell and Flame of the Ordnance Department with no manufacture date and the Winchester circled "WP" proof farther down the barrel. It is fitted with the Type I barrel band, with the double weld scars and the small sling swivel slot. It has the standard unmarked front sight with two position flip rear sight with the "S" stamped on the side. The receiver has the early unmarked all blued bolt, extractor and firing pin. It has the correct very early unmarked Type I operating rod slide with the early arm joint, with the early half circle rear area. It has the early Type I trigger housing that has the small "o" on the side with the beveled rear area with all the correct early unmarked internal parts to include the unmarked hammer in the white with the small punch hardness mark, the unmarked blued sear and trigger with the Type I push button safety and magazine catch, both with the correct serrated faces. It is fitted with the correct unproofed, or unmarked Type I high wood, "I" cut buttstock with the early "splatter" pattern Winchester buttplate. It is complete with the early unmarked, two rivet handguard with the early deep bullnose sighting radius. This early Winchester Carbine comes with one "BW" marked 15-round magazine and the correct early WWII tan unmarked sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as reconverted back to World War II configuration with 80% of the arsenal refurbished green parkerized finish overall with light wear on the receiver side wall and some thinning of the finish on the exposed barrel. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with a nice deep dark matching Winchester red color overall showing only a few very minor handling marks. Just an exceptional example of a very early "first day" production Winchester M1 carbine.
