Description:

This is a fine late WWII, Springfield Armory manufactured M1C sniper rifle. There were approximately 7,900 M1C rifles between January 1945 and December 1945 with most of the WWII production M1C rifles overhauled during the Korean War. This one was originally manufactured circa April 1945. These over-hauled M1C rifles typically have 1951 or 1952 dated barrels and mis-matched serial numbers on the telescopic sight brackets. The sight bracket on this rifle is serial numbered "3735268" on the bottom with the distinctive flat top "3" utilized by Griffin & Howe when the bases were numbered in 1945. The rifle is fitted with an original WWII barrel stamped "S-A-1-45" with the breech in the white. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman 2.2X M82 Telescopic Sight with tapered post reticle, sliding sun-shade and rubber eyepiece. The scope has a blue finish and is marked in three lines on the left side of the tube with: "TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 32294/STOCK NO.84373". The elevation and windage knob bases are numbered "7634671" and the windage knob caps are numbered "7575180". The blued scope rings and mount is marked with the Griffin & Howe name/patent markings on top with the right side stamped with the rifle serial number "3512569". It is fitted with a walnut stock and handguard set that is stamped on the side with a boxed "SA/NFR/crossed cannon" cartouche with a double "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The left rear edge of the stock is also stamped with a partial boxed "S.A." rebuild cartouche. The rifle has the typical mix of WWII and post war, mostly Springfield Armory marked components, to include a relief cut "D35382" SA operating rod, solid pin, lower handguard band, "SA-12" marked bolt, and solid, two slot gas plug. The rifle has an early unmarked milled trigger guard. The receiver has a post war gray parkerized finish with the scope and mount all blued. The rifle is complete with a "K-LINE" marked leather cheekpiece, a post WWII leather sling and a Hart marked M2 cone flash hider.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 98% of the light gray parkerized finish overall showing a hint of edge wear. The stock and handguard set are all in excellent condition with clear sharp cartouches and proof marks. The scope and mount both retain 98% of their blue finish overall with clear sharp optics. Mechanically excellent. A very nice high condition M1C Sniper rifle.
