This is a very scarce and desirable match type pistol built on a WWII Ithaca frame, and chambered for .38 AMU. The cartridge was developed by the Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, Georgia to meet National Match standards, by firing the light and more accurate 38 AMU round as used by the US Army marksmanship teams. It was built on a Model 1911A1 type pistol frame, with basic parts provided by Colt, in essence a kit gun. The slide is marked on each side; "COLT .38 AMU/AUTOMATIC" followed by the Rampant Colt and the obverse "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.". The top of the barrel is marked "COLT .38 AMU". The slide is equipped with Patridge blade front and Elliason adjustable rear notch sights. The frame still shows the original "FJA" inspection mark and "P" proof on the left side, and an "RIA" Rock Island Arsenal marking on the right. With a long, serrated trigger, narrow checkered hammer, long grip safety, arched serrated mainspring housing, and checkered grips.

Very good as arsenal refurbished and upgraded to AMU specifications with 90% plus refinished polished blue finish remaining on the frame, some mild edge wear, scattered nicks and surface scratches, and handling marks overall. The slide retains 97% original blue on the slide. Grips are also very fine with sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
