Description:

This is a representative example of a restored late WWII M1C sniper rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory circa Jan 1945 and converted into an M1C sniper rifle. There were approximately 5,000 M1C rifles produced between November 1944 and December 1945, and most rifles were overhauled during the Korean War. This rifle is fitted with an original WWII barrel stamped "S-A-6-45" with the breech in the white. The rifle is fitted with a matching scope base (bracket) on the left side of the receiver that is also numbered "3516695". It comes with an original blued Griffin & Howe scope mount correctly marked on top with the Griffin & Howe name, address and patent date markings and stamped on the right side with rifle serial number "3310154". The mount is fitted with an original late production Lyman 2.2 power M82 Telescopic Sight with tapered post reticle, sliding sun-shade and rubber eyepiece. The scope has a blue finish and is marked in three lines on the left side of the tube with: "TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 510/STOCK NO. F001-0084688". The elevation and windage knob bases are numbered "7634671", and the windage knob caps are numbered "A7575180". The rifle has the correct WWII type parts: an SA-19 bolt, 18-SA trigger housing and uncut SA-9 operating rod. It has the earlier pattern locking bar rear sight sets, a wide base gas cylinder, and four slot gas plug. It is fitted with a walnut stock and handguard set that is stamped on the side with a boxed "S.A./NFR/Cross Cannon" cartouche and a uncircled "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The walnut stock is fitted with a medium brown "K-LINE" marked leather lace-on cheekpiece and a WWII, SA marked milled cone flash hider. With leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as restored with 95% of a green/gray parkerized finish overall, edge and high spot wear overall, and signs of light firing. The scope base (bracket) has been professionally re-numbered to match the rifle. The wood components are all in very fine condition with a nice matching medium brown color overall with clear cartouches and proofs showing minor handling marks on the sides. The G&H scope mount retains 95% of its blued finish overall with clear markings. The Lyman scope also retains 95% of its original blued finish with clear sharp markings with clear viewable optics with an distinct reticle, with the rear lens showing some minor delaminations.
