Description:

Manufactured around the late 18th century and probably used by the Royal Navy. The barrel has Tower proofs, and the lock is marked with "TOWER" vertically on the tail the Georgian cipher at the center, a "crown/broad arrow" mark below the pan, and "FG" on the inside. The bore flares out to around 2 5/8 inches at the muzzle, and the gauge is estimated above. The furniture is plain brass. The stock has a raised section around the upper tang and a fluted comb.

Rating Definition:

Fine with attractive aged patina on the brass, dark brown patina and moderate oxidation and pitting on the lock and other iron components, legible markings, and mild scratches and marks. The period refinished stock is very good and has a spliced forend, thin cracks on the bottom in the mid-section, a few tiny insect holes, and minor chip at the toe. Mechanically fine.
