According to the included factory letter, this pistol was part of a 30-piece shipment to the Richards & Conover Hardware Company of Kansas City, Missouri on September 4, 1947. Fixed sights, with the one-line Hartford address on the left side of the slide, and "COLT/SUPER .38/AUTOMATIC" on the right next to the Rampant Colt. The trigger guard is marked "5/VP" on the left and "49" on the right, with the serial number on the right side of the frame, a short milled trigger, thin checkered hammer, long grip safety, checkered thumb safety, serrated slide stop and arched mainspring housing. Included with the pistol is a Colt "black" box, numbered to another pistol but properly labeled for this example, including a label added to the lid calling out the two-tone satin/high polish finish, a component list for "obsolete" Colt handguns (includes the SAA, '77 Lightning/Thunderer, and the 1902 semi-auto), Special Instructions sheet, and an advertising sheet for the Super 38.

Excellent, with 97% plus of the original blue finish, showing some bright wear on the edges and high points, and some mild handling marks. A slight plum tone is forming on the small parts and the rear of the frame. The grips are fine, with a chip absent from the right panel just below the magazine catch, and some light scuffs and dents overall. The box is worn, with absent sections and tearing. Mechanically excellent.
