These pistols were manufactured around the 1870s-1880s by Miller & Val. Greiss in Munich (Johann Miller and Valentin Greiss). They were some of the best makers of fine arms in Continental Europe at the time and produced arms owned by various nobles and aristocrats. The blue finished fluted barrels have floral engraving on the muzzle faces, dovetailed bead style front sights, raised gold scroll patterns, "MILLER & VAL. GREISS IN MUNCHEN" in gold on top, and "BUG" proofs on the bottom flats along with the serial numbers. The barrel wedges have matching partial serial numbers. The casehardened frames, locks and other components have coordinating gold scroll patterns and borders. The upper tangs have key adjustable notch rear sights. The barrels tip up for reloading using under levers, and each pistol has an adjustable single set trigger. The stocks are fluted, and they and the forearms inlaid with contrasting staghorn, including some scrimshawed pieces on the grips. They come in a close fitted hardwood case with a matching ornamented metal box holding the case and rear sight adjustable keys as well as an ornate screwdriver, engraved oiler, and a wood cleaning rod. The case lid has some glass bead decoration.

The case is very good and has a few chips, some staining/fading of the lining, and general storage wear. The accessories are also very good and have some mild storage wear including some fading of the finish on the box. Overall, this is a very attractive set of target pistols by a highly respected firm.
