Description:

These mid to late 19th century pistols were likely manufactured in France. The barrels have what appears to be "Acier" (upper left), "Portée=garantie" (top), and "Fondu" (upper right) (translates to "fluid steel" on the sides and "reach guaranteed" on top) in gold inlaid oranted script along with gold inlaid scroll accents and borders in the breech sections, scroll engraving around the nickel front sights, and high polished blue finish. Fixed rear sights are on the upper tangs. The locks and furniture are French gray and have primarily scroll engraving. The trigger guards are spurred. The stocks have incised scroll carving on the forends and fluted grips. They come in a French fitted case with "M.de. P." inscribed on the lid escutcheon, "Y Y" marked on the inside of the lid on the lining and back edge, and the following accessories: fancy ladle for pouring lead, mallet, ball mold, small powder flask, screwdriver, wooden container with caps and a broken nipple, oiler, worm, four lead balls, ramrod, and cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 95% plus of the original bright high polish blue and essentially all of the original gold inlay remaining on the barrel, smooth gray on the other components, light scratches and marks, some minor spotting, crisp engraving and carving, and generally only age and storage related wear. Mechanically excellent. The case is good and has general moderate storage wear scrapes and dings, cracks and chips at the corners, and some separation of the interior. The accessories are mostly fine with mild age and storage related wear.
