Description:

Thomas Boss & Co. was located at the address on the revolver in 1862-1908 and is still recognized as one of the leading makers of fine arms today. The revolver features fine English engraving throughout consisting mainly of scroll patterns along with some accents. The barrel has a blade front sight, Birmingham proofs flaking "450" on the upper left flat, and "T. BOSS & CO. ST JAMES'S ST, LONDON" on top. The top strap groove and notch at the rear of the frame serve as the rear sight. The left side of the frame at the breech has "W. TRANTER'S/PATENT/54870." The cylinder has Birmingham proofs and rope style border near the front. "26" is on the bottom of the barrel at the breech, back of the cylinder, front of the loading gate, and right side rear of the frame. The grip is finely checkered and has double line borders. The revolver comes in a hardwood case fitted to the gun with an empty cartridge block and oiler inside.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with 25% original nickel plating remaining in the protected areas, mostly smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, crisp engraving and markings, minor oxidation, and general scattered minor marks and scratches. The grip is very fine and has crisp checkering, smooth finish, a few light scratches and dings, and light handling and storage wear. Mechanically functions intermittently; needs work: the trigger isn't properly engaging the hammer and cylinder. The case is fine and has moderate storage wear on the exterior, residue from a now absent trade label on the inside of the lid, and minor wear on the blue lining.
