Description:

Manufactured in 1912. The accompanying factory letter lists this pistol with a factory engraving and "JNO M HAINES" slide inscription when shipped to Browning Brothers (Salt Lake City or Ogden, Utah) on November 7, 1912. The factory engraving mostly consists of floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background with floral blossoms on the underside of the frame and slide, area of cross hatching on the front sides of the frame, fan motif on the rear of the slide and zig zag line motif on the back strap. The top of the slide has the inscription "JNO. M. HAINES" inside a banner surrounded by scrollwork. Fitted with gold Rampant Colt medallion pearl grips. A contender for "Jno. M. Haines" is Republican politician John Michiner Haines (1863-1917) who served as the tenth Governor of Idaho from 1913 to 1915. Haines retired from politics after losing his reelection bid and returned to his real estate business. His tenure as governor had mixed results but highlights included the establishment of the Public Utilities Commission, State Board of Education, Workmen's Compensation Board and non-partisan election of Supreme Court and District judges.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 95% plus bright original high polish blue finish a couple areas of cleaned pitting on the slide and scattered high edge wear. The engraving is crisp. The grips are also excellent with minimal handling evidence and fiery colors. Mechanically excellent. An attractive factory engraved and inscribed Model 1903 pistol that will make a great addition to any Colt semi-automatic pistol collection.
