Manufactured in 1916, this is a commercial production Colt Government Model semi-automatic pistol marked as inspected at the London Proof House for import to Great Britain, as well as bearing military proof marks. A number of foreign governments purchased commercially-made Colt Government Model pistols as wartime armament. Fixed sights, with the two-line, two-block address and patent dates on the left side of the slide ahead of the Rampant Colt, "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 45" on the right, and a "GOVERNMENT MODEL" frame with long smooth trigger, wide hammer, short grip safety, flat mainspring housing, smooth grips, and a reblued two-tone magazine. Barrel bushing is a later production parkerized replacement. "Crown/V" proofs are present on the slide, frame and barrel, with a "crown/GP" proof on the barrel, crossed pennant proofs on the slide and frame, and a "broad arrow", "J.J" and "crown/U6/F" on the left side of the frame ahead of the slide stop.

Very fine, with 80% of the original blue finish. Areas of gray patina are present on the slide and frame, with scattered dents and spotting. Some breaks in the letter of the factory markings are visible. The grips are fine replacements, with mild shrinkage and attractive color. The slide stop needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically fine.
