Description:

This is a solid representative example of an original early production Borchardt Model 1893 semi-automatic pistol with the original matching magazine. These early model 1893 Borchardt pistols were the true forerunner of the world famous and historic Luger pistol. These pistols employed a unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by Georg Luger and later used throughout production of the Luger pistol. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN." with the top of the toggle mechanism carrying the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The right side of the barrel extension is marked "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension are all marked with the early German commercial proofs of a "crown/B" and "crown/U" proofs. The left rear section of the barrel is marked with the German commercial proofs that consist of the "crown/B", "crown/U", and "G/172,28". It is fitted with a set of original grips that have the checkered center sections with the smooth border. This scarce early semi-automatic pistol is complete with its original, matching serial numbered (336) magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% of the original blue finish showing minor wear on the edges and high spots overall, mixed with some minor erosion/fine rust spotting overall and some slightly heavier on the outside of the barrel and side rails. The front and rear grip straps and underside of the frame also show some light oxidation. The front left underside of the barrel shows a spot of scattered minor pin-prick type pitting. The markings are clear and sharp. It has all matching serial numbered parts to include the very fine original grips and the original magazine as noted. A nice representative example of an original early production Borchardt Model 1893 semi-automatic pistol.
