This is an example of a mid-WWII US Springfield M1 Garand as manufactured July 1943, that was subsequently converted into a M1D type sniper rifle. It has the standard five line receiver markings over serial number "1814024", with the unusual barrel markings of "*S-SA-D6 53-5-44d*, with a handguard cut on the left side of the barrel. It has a mix of WWII Springfield Armory marked parts. It is fitted with an early all blued, Lyman Alaskan commercial sniper scope that has the standard crosshair reticle. It is fitted with a walnut stock and handguard set with the stock stamped on the left side with, "RA/a boxed SA" proof, with a single circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The stock has the standard steel buttplate and comes with a excellent WWII leather sling marked "T.C.C./43". The left side of the scope tube is marked with the standard Lyman Commercial factory markings followed by: "ALASKAN/B5536" which was a late Korean War era replacement scope. Some of these "B" prefix scopes have been documented as being sold through the CMP on both M1C and M1D sniper rifles. The scope comes with a rubber eyepiece and a cross-hair type reticle. It is complete with a stamped M2 HART marked flash hider.

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 98% of a dark black type parkerized finish overall with a hint of edge and high spot wear. The refinished wood components, buttstock and handguards are all in very good condition showing only a couple handling marks overall. The cartouches/proofs are clear and distinct. The scope retains 98% of its original blue finish overall with clear sharp optics. A very nice looking M1D type sniper rifle.
