Description:

Manufactured in 1917, many Winchester Model 1897 shotguns were procured for use by the United States military in both "Riot" and the then-new "Trench" configurations. The former is often associated with guard duties and training in aerial gunnery. Single brass bead sight, with the standard commercial markings on the barrel and operating rod, 2 3/4 inch chamber and a "CYL." marked choke. Matching numbers are present on the receiver and the barrel, the former stamped "US/(flaming bomb)" on the right side just ahead of the ejector port. Fitted with a ribbed forearm and a smooth pistol grip stock with a checkered Winchester buttplate and a 13 3/4 inch length of pull. A green canvas shell pouch, marked "RUBON A.C. 1942" inside the flap, is included.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 95% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish, showing some light dings and scratches on the receiver, mild cycling wear, bright edges and mild handling marks. The stock is very fine, with some mild dents and scuffs concentrated on the buttstock, and a few tiny chips on and around the buttplate. The pouch is lightly sun-faded, with a bit of fraying around one of the snaps. Mechanically excellent.
