Description:

This is a very fine example of a WWII M1928A1 submachine gun, as manufactured by the Savage Arms Corp. This model is the wartime version of the original Colt/Auto-Ordnance design, as originally manufactured under a U.S. government contract. It is stamped with a wartime inspectors mark of R.L.B. on the left side, indicating it was inspected by Col. Roy L. Bowlin of the Rochester N.Y. Ordnance District. This weapon has a light gray refurbished parkerized type finish with a matte blue finish on the bolt assembly and some smaller parts. The receiver is marked with "US MODEL OF 1928 A1/ NO. S-83367" with the rear section marked: "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/ CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE". The obverse is marked in two-lines "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION, BRIDGEPORT CONN." The top of the receiver is marked with the "Thompson Bullet" logo. The left front edge of the receiver is stamped with a circled "GEG" and small Ordnance Bomb inspection proof. It retains the various early features such as the 10 1/2 inch barrel with cooling fins, the Cutts compensator on the muzzle, the early Lyman marked adjustable tangent rear sight with a matching detachable buttstock. The trigger housing/lower frame is also matching numbered "S-83367". The standard sling swivels have been moved from the underside of the weapon to the with the left side of the front pistol grip and top area of the buttstock. It is complete with a one 30 round magazine and a black nylon carrying case.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% of a refurbished, light gray parkerized finish overall with a matte blued bolt assembly with blued smaller parts. The wood components are all in very good condition with the buttstock having two larger repair plugs on the front left side. Also the rear underside buttstock sling swivel cutout has been nicely filled in a with a lighter colored walnut piece. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
