Description:

Produced between 1942 and 1945, the Experimental Remington-Rand Series was part of Remington-Rand's efforts to improve their manufacturing processes. An office equipment firm which was spun off from E. Remington & Sons back in the 1800s, the U.S. 1911A1 was Remington-Rand's first firearm, and these pistols were part of the learning process that made the firm's output able to stand shoulder to shoulder with Colt and the other contractors. Intended for internal use only, they lack government inspection/acceptance markings. Believed to number between 100-150 in total, the "ERRS" pistols were dispersed after the war as presentation pieces and retirement gifts; notes from a previous owner attribute #42 as given by the factory chief to the Chief of Police of Elmira, New York. Fixed sights, with "REMINGTON RAND INC./SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A." on the left side of the slide, and "NO. ERRS 42" on the right. Equipped with a short milled trigger, thin checkered hammer, an arched checkered mainspring housing, R marked full blue magazine, "S P" marked barrel and a pair of ribbed plastic grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 95% of the parkerized finish, showing scattered small patches of dark spotting, mild edge wear and light handling marks. The grips are very fine, with dings and scuffs concentrated on the left panel. Notable dark corrosion and roughness visible on the areas of the replacement barrel concealed by the slide. Mechanically excellent.
