Description:

This is a WWII M1C Garand Springfield Armory sniper rifle originally manufactured in June 1944 that was sold through the CMP Program in November 1995. This model was originally developed in 1944 and saw limited use in late WWII, then again in Korea and even into Vietnam. It was the first semi-automatic sniper rifle fielded by the U.S. Army, and, although effective, it proved to be time consuming to manufacture and was eventually replaced by the later M1D sniper rifle which could be produced by Springfield Armory using a newly manufactured replacement sniper barrel and the appropriate scope and mount. It is estimated that over 4,000 total were produced with many being given to various NATO allies in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was refurbished in 1951 probably for Korea and is now fitted with a "S-A-12-51" marked Springfield barrel with the breech in the white. It has a mix WWII and a few post-war manufactured parts, as follows: Bolt, -12SA, Hammer SA C5546008-5 SA, Trigger Housing, -12-SA, Op Rod, D35382-SA. It has post-war wide base gas cylinder and a round top gas cylinder lock. It is fitted with an original M1C replacement bracket that is numbered "3615676" on the underside, which is held in place with three screws and two taper pins. It comes with an unmarked/unnumbered commercial M1C replacement scope mount that is fitted with an original M84 sniper scope. The nomenclature plate is marked: "TELESCOPE/M84/SERIAL NO. 2527", and it has the standard post/crosshair reticle. It is fitted with an unmarked walnut stock and handguard set with no proofs or cartouches. This desirable rifle includes a full compliment of original issue components, such as the cone type flash hider, canvas scope case, leather cheekpiece, web sling, complete cleaning rod set with bore and chamber brushes, and the original CMP cardboard shipping box, correctly numbered on the outside with rifle and scope serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 98% plus of the gray/green parkerized finish overall showing only a hint of edge wear from handling and cycling the action. The wood components, buttstock, and handguard set are in excellent condition as arsenal refurbished with a nice dark brown matching color overall. The scope and mount retain 98% of their original blue finish with clear sharp optics. Mechanically excellent. The various accessories noted above are all in excellent condition, still packaged in their original storage packages. A very nice looking early CMP M1C lottery rifle.
