Description:

This is a very good example of a WWI Remington-UMC U.S. Army Model 1911 contract pistol. These Remington-UMC pistols were manufactured in the 1918/19 time frame in their own serial number block from "1 to 21676". During manufacture, the Remington Arms-U.M.C. Co. used their own set of technical drawings that did not conform to those used by Colt or the U.S. Government. Consequently most of these pistols were disposed of after WWI due to the standardization requirements for part interchangeability with the Colt manufactured Model 1911 pistols making surviving examples fairly rare to find. The left side of the slide is marked in two blocks "PATENTED DEC.19.1905/FEB.14.1911.AUG.19.1913./COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO." followed by "MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTON ARMS UMC CO. INC./BRIDGEPORT. CONN.U.S.A.", with the circled "REMINGTON/UMC" logo between the two blocks. The right side is marked "MODEL OF 1911/U.S. ARMY CALIBER .45". The left side of the frame extension is stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the final U.S. Government inspector's initials "E.E.C." over an "Eagle Head/E28" ordnance inspection proof. The right side of the frame is stamped with serial number "NO 6433". It is fitted with an all blued WWII barrel as manufactured by the High Standard Company which is correctly stamped with an "HS" and "P" on the right and left sides of the barrel lug respectively. The rear of the slide above the firing pin stop is stamped with a single letter "E" provisional inspection mark and so is the left side of the trigger guard bow. The right front side of the trigger guard bow is numbered "26". It is fitted with checkered walnut grips just like the standard Colt M1911. It is complete with one half-tone blued magazine with a capital "R" stamped on the front edge of the base plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% of the original blued metal finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall with blue loss on the front grip strap and main spring housing. Both of those areas also show some light erosion on the metal surface mixed with a dark gray patina. The grips are both in fine condition with a nice original dark brown oil finish with sharp distinct checking on both sides mixed with some handling marks/pressure dents in a couple areas.
