This is fine representative example of a nearly M1 Garand as manufactured circa June 1943, that has been upgraded/converted to an M1D Sniper configuration, probably for Korea. The rear of the receiver has the five line Springfield Armory markings over serial number "1728667", and the M1D barrel is marked "SA 0731255 2-52". There are no depot rebuild/rework marks on the receiver leg and it has a mix of early and late WWII marked parts, mostly Springfield with a modified SA-6 operating rod. It has the wide base gas cylinder with a round top gas cylinder lock and "P/O" marked, four slot gas cylinder plug. It is fitted with a post-war rear sight set with a the standard front sight. It has a standard walnut stock and handguard set with only a circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area with a standard checkered steel buttplate. The buttstock is fitted with an "MRT" marked leather cheekpiece and comes with a green canvas sling and cleaning kit, inside the butt trap. The rifle is complete with a standard M84 sniper scope that is marked on the nomenclature plate with "TELESCOPE/M84/SERIAL NO.17231", has a sliding metal sunshade, a rubber eyepiece and the standard post and cross-hair reticle. The right side of forward barrel is marked "Fed.ORD.INC.SO.EL.M.CAL."

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 95% of the correct dark green parkerized finish overall with light edge wear from handling. The stock and handguards are in fine condition as arsenal refurbished with a nice dark brown color overall showing handling marks and light pressure dents on the sides in various areas. The "P" proof is deep and sharp. The M84 sniper scope is also in very fine condition with 95% of the blue finish overall with slight edge wear, some age cracks in the rubber eyepiece and old porosity pitting on the side of the mount under the finish. The optics are clear and sharp and the reticle is intact. A very nice looking M1D sniper rifle.
