Description:

Manufactured on contract for the government in 1944, records (page 161, The Colt Pocket Hammerless Automatic Pistols by John W. Brunner) show that this pistol was issued as a General's sidearm in 1950 to Kingston E. Tibbets. Hailing from Ohio, Tibbets joined the Army Air Corps in 1929, serving as both an instructor and pursuit pilot in the inter-war years. He would be stationed with the Hawaiian Air Depot at Hickam Field on December 7, 1941, during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor; Hickam was heavily bombed by the Japanese attackers to deter attempts to intercept or pursue them, resulting in around 300 wounded and nearly 200 fatalities. He was named a staff officer to the 7th Air Force early the following year, and held that post for the bulk of America's involvement in World War II. After the war he served in a number of staff roles for the Army Air Force and the newly established U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1958 at the rank of Major General. Fixed sights, with the two line address and patent dates on the left side of the slide, the Rampant Colt behind the serrations, "crossed cannons" Ordnance cartouche double-stamped on the frame behind the safety, and "M" stamped ahead of the serial number. Fitted with a set of checkered medallion grips and a two-tone magazine with "M" added to the floorplate. The rig is built around a black leather belt with gilt American Eagle buckle, with matching style holster and magazine pouch (extra magazines not included).

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% original blue, showing some bright edge wear, a bit of rubbing on the grip straps, and mild handling marks overall. The grips are also excellent, showing a few dings. Some light wear and scuffing is visible on the belt rig. Mechanically excellent.
