Description:

Manufactured in 1862, the second year of production. The government purchased about 2,363 Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolvers between April 1861 and April of 1866. The left side of the barrel lug is stamped with a "BC", the cylinder with a "L" and "W", "W" on the right side of the barrel lug, "L" on the back strap just behind the hammer, "D" on the underside of the barrel and an "S" on the back of the trigger guard. The left side of the grip has a faint boxed three letter script cartouche. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard New-York U.S. America marking with a dash at each end, and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The barrel and frame are marked "7597", and the trigger guard and back strap are marked "7497". The "97" on the later two have been stamped over what appears to have been "30". The wedge is numbered "00906". The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas/Mexican naval battle scene and marked "COLT PATENT NO 597". Brass blade front and hammer notch rear sights and fitted with a one piece smooth walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Good as assembled. The metal surfaces have a smooth grayish patina overall. There are a few minor dings around the wedge. The loading lever shows strong faded original case colors. The brass has been cleaned and shows a dull, pocked finish. The grip is very good with a lightly visible cartouche, some minor, scratches and dings. The cylinder scene is faint. The other markings are clear.
