Description:

The rear of the cylinder is marked with a Liege proofmark, and the front cylinder face has the N. Gilon maker's marking. The barrel is marked "COLT/PATENT" on the top flat, and a "crown/R" is stamped on the left side of the barrel lug. The frame has a light border engraving, the recoil shield has a floral engraving, the brass back strap and trigger guard have a floral engraving, and the cylinder has cross hatching and floral pattern engravings. Matching serial numbers are on the barrel, frame and trigger guard. Silver plated grip straps and blue finish on the remaining metal surfaces. Fitted with a varnished, nicely figured walnut one-piece grip. This revolver was once part of the famed Stagecoach Museum; it retains the museum brass number tag of "492" and is documented in the book "The Stagecoach Museum Gun Collection" on pages 90-91. Note that the book incorrectly lists the revolver as being French made.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. There are a couple patches of minor pitting. The grip straps retain traces of darkened original silver plating in the protected areas. The front strap and butt have collector numbers in paint and vinyl. The grip is very fine showing some minor pressure dents and scratches with most of the original "piano" varnish finish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
