Description:

The consignor indicated this revolver was one of four Colt Open Top revolvers custom built by Kenny Howell of R&D Guns for use in TNT's incredibly popular television movie "Crossfire Trail" (2001) starring Tom Selleck. Another of the Open Tops was donated by Selleck to the NRA Museum and was confirmed to have been modified by Ken Howell of R&D Gun Shop. The third is reportedly still owned by Selleck, and the location of the fourth is unknown. The revolver is very similar to the NRA Museum example. Other revolvers from the Tom Selleck collection by Kenny Howell were previously sold through our auction. The base for this revolver may be a Colt Blackpowder Arms Company frame. It has a dovetailed blade front sight with gold insert, "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" marked on top of the barrel, a notch sight near the breech, the 1871 and 1872 patent dates on the left side of the frame, the Naval Battle of Campeche scene on the cylinder, "44 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard, "5" on the back of the cylinder, "15" on the loading gate and left side of the front strap at the toe as well as hand marked on the spacer for the grips, "7202" on the bottom of the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap along with the side of the cylinder; an "A" by the serial number at the first three locations.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 98% plus blue and casehardened finish, plum tone on the grip frame, faint cylinder drag lines, a few minor hairline cracks in the grips, and light handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent.
