Manufactured in 1907. The accompanying Buffalo Bill Historical Center letter lists this rifle in extra lightweight, takedown configuration with a 22 inch barrel in .45-70 caliber (smokeless), plain trigger, 4 cartridge magazine, checkered pistol grip stock and shotgun buttplate when received in the warehouse on June 21, 1907 and shipped on July 30. The barrel is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight, "45-70" at the breech and "NICKEL STEEL" on the left side and is fitted with a dovetail beaded blade Lyman front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang has the model/trade mark information, and the lower tang has the serial number and patent dates marking. The varnished checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured "XX" walnut. The buttstock has a hard rubber grip cap and shotgun buttplate. The left side of the stock is marked "371XX." The assembly number "371" is repeated on the stock inlet.

Very fine, retaining 80% plus original blue finish with the balance thinning to a gray patina. 50% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. 60% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is also very fine with minor handling/storage evidence, a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering and retaining most of the original finish. Mechanically excellent. This highly attractive deluxe Model 1886 extra lightweight takedown rifle will make a worthy addition to any Winchester collection.
